The Italian women's Under-18 tennis team's dream of reaching the French final has narrowly eluded them. The curtain has fallen on the European semifinals of the "Reina Soisbault Cup" for the women's Under-18 national teams, part of the Tennis Europe Summer Cups, held recently at the Circolo Tennis di Maglie. Italy finished fourth in its group, edged out by the Czech Republic 2-1, narrowly missing out on the podium. The final results saw Serbia take first place, Poland second, and the Czech Republic third. The top three teams in the Maglie group have booked their places in the finals in Granville, France, to be played from August 4th to 6th. Slovenia and Greece finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the group stage match between Serbia and Poland, which ended 2-1, the singles match between Petra Konjikusic (SRB) and Inka Wawrzkiewicz (POL) was very close, with the match going to a third set with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. In the other singles match, Anastasija Cvetkovic (SRB) defeated Anna Kmiecik (POL) 6-1, 6-2.
Poland's point came in the doubles event. The Italian national team, led by federal coach Giovanni Paolisso and featuring Ilary Pistola, Sveva Pieroni, and Alessia Antici, faced the Czech Republic, led by Pavlina Ticha, who featured Amelie Justine Hejtmanek, Denisa Zoldakova, and Amy Sucha.
In the first two singles matches, Amy Sucha defeated Sveva Pieroni 7-5, 3-6. Ilary Pistola had a similar result, defeating Denisa Zoldakova 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. The doubles match proved decisive, with Italians Pistola and Pieroni losing 6-1, 6-3 to Serbian pair Sucha and Zoldakova.
