Ukrainian Usyk is the absolute heavyweight champion
Oleksandr Usyk is the reigning heavyweight world champion (unified WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF titles). The Ukrainian defeated Britain's Daniel Dubois by a fifth-round knockout in London. The thirty-eight-year-old Crimean boxer remains undefeated in the heavyweight division after his 24th victory: before this unification bout, he held the WBA, WBC, and WBO belts. At Wembley, he took the IBF belt from his opponent, becoming the undisputed champion.
"I thank Jesus, my team, Wembley," said Usyk, who has repeatedly stated in the past that he is also fighting for the Ukrainian people. "Tonight, this victory is for the people of the world," he added, before explaining that he would now take a few months off. Dubois, for his part, "acknowledged the superiority" of his opponent, despite repeatedly knocking him down before being knocked down twice in the fifth round.
