Varese - Varese city buses, the new depot will be in Lozza: farewell to the former slaughterhouse soon - - Varese News

After sixty years of operation at the former Civic Slaughterhouse on Via Tonale, Varese 's city buses are preparing for a new home . Autolinee Varesine is building a new depot in Lozza , on the site of the former Minonzio industrial body shop , with a private investment of approximately 10 million euros .
The new centre will be built on Via Cesare Battisti , on the land formerly occupied by the industrial body shop, a historic company producing customised trucks (mainly for street vendors, but not only) which went bankrupt in 2007.
After acquiring the area, Autolinee Varesine began redevelopment work in 2024. To date, the project has involved the demolition of existing buildings and environmental cleanup, while construction of the new buildings is in the preliminary phase and should be completed within 12 months.
The depot will be a modern workplace for some of the company's approximately 300 employees , including drivers and mechanics. The new space will allow for easier maneuvering and will house facilities specifically designed for operational needs, including charging stations more suitable for electric buses.
"The old depot on Via Tonale was no longer adequate in many ways, both logistical and functional," explains Autolinee Varesine. This move also plays into the master plan for the area, which envisions a significant change in function for the residents of the area where the depot now stands.
