Wimbledon, no miracle for Cobolli: Djokovic advances to the semifinals against Sinner

Wimbledon, no miracle for Cobolli: Djokovic advances to the semifinals against Sinner

Novak Djokovic will once again face Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinal , the third Grand Slam event of the season. The Serbian, former world number 1 and seven-time champion in London, came from behind to defeat an excellent Flavio Cobolli in four sets with a score of 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in just over 3 hours of play on the third match point. The match between Djokovic and Sinner will be a rematch of the 2023 semifinal won by Nole.

"First of all, congratulations to Flavio for a great tournament and a great battle. I'd played against him once on hard court, but we've often trained together. I'd seen him here, but there's a big difference between training and playing. He surprised me with the courage he showed ; he's talented, and I'm sure we'll see him on tour for a long time to come," Novak Djokovic commented after the match. " I slipped at the end ; it happens on grass, it's never happened this year. But I'm fine," he added. This will be Djokovic's 14th Wimbledon semifinal, an all-time record, ahead of Roger Federer. "Wimbledon was, is, and will be the most special tournament in our sport. For me, it's very important at 38 to play in the final days here at Wimbledon . It's something that makes me feel young and compete against young guys like Cobolli. And speaking of young players, I'll have Sinner in the semifinals now," he concluded.
