14-year-old boy shoots his parents to death, calls police and turns himself in

In the early hours of August 5th, a shocking incident rocked the community of Jacksonville, Florida . According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office , 14-year-old Trevor Lee was arrested after admitting to murdering his parents, David Lee (44) and Brandi Smith (45) , using a firearm.

According to police, Trevor made a 911 call from the parking lot of a nearby church , where he awaited arrest after leaving the gun at his home on Silver Point Street in the Fleming Island area. Police determined that his parents' bodies had gunshot wounds .

"According to the sheriff, the shooting occurred after a domestic dispute. The young man walked a mile to the church, where he surrendered without resistance," he told local media.

The incident has reignited discussions about domestic violence and children's access to guns. According to the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) , youth homicides increased by 65% in the United States between 2016 and 2022.
