Assault with the President's signature

Assault with the President's signature

Yesterday, the President of Mexico signed it. Her public signature. Her seal of approval. After a week of relentless harassment by the regime against the Latinus team and myself, the president concluded with: yes, it was me.

Yesterday marked one week since Claudia Sheinbaum's government launched a harassment operation that used our ground-level coverage of the anti-Trump protests in Los Angeles, California, as a battlefield.

First, the regime sent its YouTubers, its usual propagandists, who, although completely unknown to us, showed up with a generously paid mission: to harass us, insult us while we were working, interrupt us during our broadcasts, and harass us. A provocation with a direct line. Exceeding their verbal violence, they came literally inches away from physical violence. What's next? Physical aggression broadcast live for the delight of the powerful President? This hadn't happened even in the darkest times of López Obrador's reign. And all this while the President says that her movement doesn't incite violence and respects freedom of expression.

Second: their well-oiled disinformation machine began to spin. They said it was all a setup. They said I wasn't there. They said we faked the tear gas. It was all just theater. Fortunately, it's all documented. We've published the images that expose the regime in its dirty war: stun grenades exploding a few meters away from us, the gas smoke visible, everyone on the team crouching to avoid the rubber bullets, coughing from the gas. Even the emissary from the 4T they sent to insult us had his mouth and nose covered by the tear gas that, according to them, never existed.

Yesterday, this harassment operation was celebrated at the National Palace. From the morning press conference, Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her satisfaction. She applauded the lies spread against us. She applauded the insults hurled against us. She endorsed the hate campaign. And with that, she made it clear that it bears her signature.

Yes, it was her.

Because a single word from the President would be enough to bring this climate of harassment against independent and critical journalism to a sudden end. A word. But no. Sheinbaum prefers to portray herself as a queen pleased with the most personal persecution and aggression ever orchestrated by the jesters in her court.

We have never insulted the President. We have never sent people to harass her on her tours. We don't need that. Our questions come back with documents, videos, recordings. That's the job of journalism. There's no way we can remain silent in the face of fraud and corruption.

That's why the Monarch with an A, the Queen with an A, can't stand us. She has it all: the Executive, the Legislative, the Judiciary, the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the SAT (Tax Administration Service), the UIF (Fiscal Unit of the Federal Institute of Statistics and Census), the INE (National Electoral Institute of the Judiciary), the TEPJF (General Secretariat of Justice), the Army, the National Guard, almost all the governorships, a 9 trillion peso budget, and the accomplice of the vast majority of the media. She has the entire state apparatus. But it's not enough. She doesn't want a shred of freedom. She wants to squelch any dissenting voice, to dilute any exercise of counterbalance. That's the extent of her authoritarianism.

But we've already put up with the boss for six years...

The government is hungry for reforms for Uber and Rappi delivery drivers. A juicy prize of 650,000 new union members so Morena member and campaign sponsor Pedro Haces can continue to get rich.
