Defense of “El Mayo” Zambada says he is unaware of government extradition orders

MEXICO CITY.- Juan Manuel Delgado , legal advisor to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada , stated that the Mexican drug lord's legal defense team was unaware of the extradition orders requested by the Mexican government, as reported yesterday by Attorney General Gertz Manero .
He stated this in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva on his program for Radio Fórmula.
The lawyer commented that, until yesterday, the defense team learned of the four repatriation orders requested by the Mexican government .
This was announced by the Attorney General during the morning presidential conference.
Juan Manuel Delgado clarified that the Mexican state is not obliged to inform the defense in Mexico, but it is obliged to inform the person involved, in this case, “El Mayo” Zambada.
He also said that the request from the Mexican authorities was different from that of the defense.
He said that “with all due respect, I differ from the opinion of the prosecutor, an extradition process has a different legal nature than a request for repatriation .”

He also said that a written response to the request for repatriation is expected; he also pointed out that in the same document a series of guarantees were requested so that the death penalty would not be applied .
The defense argues that the situation in which Ismael Zambada was transferred constitutes an illegal act, which provides sufficient reason for the request for repatriation .
Juan Manuel Delgado said that the goal is not to evade justice , only to respect the human rights of the individual and international treaties.
