Demand for measles vaccines is growing in La Laguna.

Demand for measles vaccines is growing in La Laguna.

Following the measles outbreak in Mexico and confirmed cases in Coahuila, the demand for measles vaccines increased by 20 percent in Health Jurisdiction No. 6, which covers the municipalities of Torreón, Matamoros, and Viesca.

Vaccination Program Coordinator Elia Rodríguez Aguirre reported that nearly 1,000 MMR (triple viral) vaccines are administered monthly, protecting against measles, rubella, and mumps. Meanwhile, nearly 400 doses of the MMR vaccine, also known as double viral, are administered monthly. The latter protects against measles and rubella.

In the Daily Report on the Measles Outbreak in Mexico, as of July 8, 2025, the federal Ministry of Health records 3,171 positive cases distributed across 20 states and 79 municipalities, 19 of which are in Coahuila, with an incidence rate of 0.55 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In this state, 139 suspected cases have been investigated, and throughout Mexico, there are 6,305 probable cases.

Nationally, the most affected state is Chihuahua, with 2,966 confirmed cases and 4,391 probable cases.

In the country, 9 people have died from this disease, including 8 fatalities in Chihuahua and one in Sonora.

In Torreón, the Coahuila Health Secretariat is holding a vaccination campaign at Plaza Cuatro Caminos, which will conclude next Sunday, July 13.

The clinic's hours of operation are from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The public can find the vaccines included in the National Vaccination Schedule, except for BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin), which protects against tuberculosis and is currently in short supply.

It's important to note that all vaccines are free of charge, and people must bring their vaccination cards. If you don't have this official document, you can do so without any problem and will receive proof of having received the required vaccinations.

If you are unable to attend this campaign, you can visit health centers and hospitals run by the Ministry of Health, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as your assigned units, if you have social security coverage through the IMSS or ISSSTE, among other institutions.
