Foreigner arrested for trying to smuggle arsenal and ammunition into Mexico

As part of the reinforcement of security on the country's northern border, elements of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), Ministry of the Navy (Semar), Attorney General's Office (FGR), National Guard (GN), Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), together with the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), arrested a foreign subject who tried to bring an arsenal and ammunition into the country inside a vehicle, in Tijuana, Baja California.
As a result of the strengthening of security and surveillance at the El Chaparral International Bridge, while carrying out random inspections, security elements came into contact with the driver of a vehicle with tinted windows that impeded visibility inside the unit, which is why they asked him to stop his vehicle to carry out an inspection.
During the inspection, security officers found three long weapons, two handguns, 19 magazines, more than 2,000 live cartridges of different calibers, as well as three telescopic sights for weapons and a telescope inside the vehicle, so the driver was immediately arrested.
The detainee, a US citizen, was informed of his constitutional rights and was placed at the disposal of the corresponding public prosecutor, along with the seized items, who will determine his legal situation and continue with the relevant investigations.
It is worth mentioning that, after intelligence work, it was learned that the detainee and the seized items are linked to a criminal cell that generates violence.
Within the framework of the National Security Strategy, with these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to bilateral collaboration and coordination with the aim of strengthening security between both nations.
