Mazatlan Carnival: Grupo Firme cancels its performance after threats

The Mazatlán Carnival 2025 has been marred by violence. On February 25, Grupo Firme , headed by Eduin Caz , received threats warning about its performance at the event.
The message, addressed to the group, appeared next to a human head in Tijuana, sparking alarm on social media. The banner read:
“Grupo Firme, if you play at the Mazatlán Carnival, we will kill you all. Remember that you live in Tijuana, we will even kill the one who puts on the lights.”
The concert was scheduled for March 1 , but this afternoon the group confirmed its cancellation.
Through a statement on social media, they expressed:
Impact on the economy and security of the event“The well-being of those who have accompanied us on this journey, our family, you, our fans, is and always will be the most important thing,” adding that they hope to meet their fans again soon.
“We hope to be able to meet again soon to sing, celebrate and continue making history together.”
With only one day to go until the start of the Mazatlán Carnival, uncertainty is growing. The event, considered a key opportunity for economic recovery after months of violence, now faces a latent threat.
Despite the security strategy announced by Mayor Estrella Palacios and Governor Rubén Rocha Moya , which includes the deployment of more than 4,000 members of the Army, National Guard, Navy and State Police, the situation continues to cause concern. The arrival of one million tourists , both domestic and foreign, is expected.
Travel agencies cancel toursThe Muza travel agency announced the cancellation of its tour to the Mazatlán Carnival due to the high levels of insecurity in Sinaloa.
In a statement, the company explained that the well-being of its customers is its priority , so, after a risk assessment, it decided to cancel the trip and offer refunds or alternatives.
Roads are reinforced and surveillance is reinforcedAs part of the security operation, assistance modules for tourists and victims of violence will be set up at strategic points. In addition, surveillance will be intensified on key roads, such as:
- Culiacan - Mazatlan
- Durango - Mazatlan
- Tepic - Mazatlan
Governor Ruben Rocha stated:
“We have 1,600 active officers and will add 3,000 more for the Carnival operation. We will be present on all the main routes to ensure the safety of locals and visitors.”
More cancellations: Jorge Medina and Josi Cuén withdraw from the eventThe concert by Jorge Medina and Josi Cuén , scheduled for the opening of the Carnival on February 27 and which would mark the coronation of the King of Joy , was also cancelled.
Through social media, the artists regretted the situation and assured that the decision was made for reasons beyond their control .
Government maintains its position: "Carnival is still on"Despite the wave of cancellations, the Secretary General of Government, Feliciano Castro Meléndrez , assured that artistic and cultural events remain in force .
"For more than a week we have been reinforcing operations on the roads and we have sufficient security elements to guarantee the peace of mind of visitors," he said.
