One death and several people transferred to hospital in a fire at a nursing home in Zaragoza.

A fire at a nursing home located at 56 Salvador Allende Avenue in Zaragoza has left a 93-year-old man dead from smoke inhalation and several injured, 18 of whom had to be transported to various hospitals in the Aragonese capital.

Sources from Aragon's 112 emergency services have reported that there were 132 people in the care home, and 46 of them have been evacuated . Specifically, the regional government has indicated that as of 1:00 a.m., 18 residents had been transferred to the Miguel Servet, Clínico, Royo Villanova, and Nuestra Señora de Gracia hospitals in Zaragoza due to smoke inhalation.

According to the Police Headquarters, the fire broke out at around 11:30 p.m. this Friday . From the outset, a large emergency response team was deployed, involving coordinated efforts from the National Police, Local Police, Fire Department, and health services.

The officers intervened quickly to evacuate the residents, even breaking windows to free the trapped people.

The cause of the fire is under investigation . Forensic Police, Judicial Police, and the Duty Court have responded to the scene to carry out the necessary investigations.

This is the second fire at a nursing home in the province of Zaragoza in less than a year. In November 2024, ten people died and two others were seriously injured at a facility located in the town of Villafranca de Ebro. In 2015, eight residents of a nursing home in Santa Fe, in the Aragonese capital, also lost their lives.
