Saltillo: The Federal Government is investigating whether a candlelight caused a fire that left seven dead in Nueva Tlaxcala.

A survivor of the fire stated that a lit candle could have started the fire in the Nueva Tlaxcala neighborhood, but the Prosecutor's Office reported that this version has not yet been confirmed by experts.
Although it has emerged that a lit candle could have started the fire that killed seven people early Friday morning in the Nueva Tlaxcala neighborhood of Saltillo, the State Attorney General's Office clarified that this hypothesis is based solely on an initial report and has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to authorities, the account was provided by a survivor of the fire, who stated that a lit candle was found inside the home, which could have caused the fire. However, specialized forensic examinations only began this afternoon, as the high temperatures caused by the fire at the scene made it difficult for forensic and Civil Protection personnel to enter.
It wasn't until approximately 3:00 p.m. that experts were able to enter the fire scene to begin gathering technical evidence, so the official report on the cause of the fire is still being processed.
According to the expert report, the fire started on the ground floor of the building , specifically in the first area east of the garage . In that space, the remains of glass candle- type glasses and a wooden cabinet attached to the east wall were found, where the fire ignited.
The report concludes that the heat emanating from the candles reached the temperature of the furniture's ignition, triggering the fire. From that point, the flames spread throughout the ground floor, shattering glass and eventually spreading to the upper floor of the home.
Authorities reiterated their call to the public to take extreme precautions when using candles inside their homes to prevent tragedies caused by domestic fires.
Since the early hours of the day, unconfirmed reports began circulating in some media outlets, attributing the fire to the use of a candle. However, the Prosecutor's Office reiterated that a definitive cause cannot be established until the corresponding forensic studies are completed.
Five minors and two adults died in the fire. One person survived and is being treated at a city hospital.
The area remains under guard by members of the Criminal Investigation Agency, while Civil Protection personnel continue to assess the structural conditions of the home and gather information for the final report.
