Salvador Dalí's heirs sue Galerías El Triunfo for plagiarism of his paintings.

Melted Store.- The heirs of surrealist painter Salvador Dalí have filed a lawsuit against the Mexican furniture store Galerías El Triunfo for alleged plagiarism of the artist's work and images.

The controversy began after social media users shared photos of a vase that appeared to be melting, which was compared to the famous painting The Persistence of Memory , where the clocks appear to be "running out," sparking the hashtag #DalíDelTriunfo.

But that's not the only suspicious product. According to the trust that protects Dalí's legacy, the chain has also plagiarized pieces such as flowerpots shaped like turtles wearing heels, latrines with multicolored tiles, and sofas with gaping jaws—all clearly straight out of a bad dream or, in this case, from the Galerías El Triunfo catalog.

Galerías el Triunfo denies any Dalí plagiarism.

In addition to demanding the removal of these products, representatives of Don Chava's legacy would request financial compensation for the time the chain sold these "inspired" pieces without paying a single peseta (or peso) in royalties.

For its part, Galerías El Triunfo responded with a statement written in baroque cursive, asserting that "all of our works are original inspirations from our creative designers, who once heard about Dalí while building a bureau in Iztapalapa." An argument that, according to intellectual property experts, has the legal strength of an MDF coat rack.

This is the second plagiarism lawsuit the store has faced, as it also has a pending lawsuit against the Louvre Museum for using images of the Mona Lisa on pillows, curtains, and bath mats without authorization.
