MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— Melissa Díaz Malpica and Isabela Marilu Be Tuyub , two teenage scouts from the Association of Scouts of Mexico (Asmac) Province of Yucatán , assumed the positions of security secretary and chief commissioner for one day , of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of Yucatán .
“I ask all undersecretaries, directors, commanders and troops to be very attentive and to respect all the instructions that they give them,” said Commissioner Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda , head of the department, when “handing over” the position to the teenagers in a ceremony that took place this morning in the C5i crisis room , which was attended by the high command of the SSP.
Saidén Ojeda highlighted the projects presented by the teenagers to achieve the positions they have now taken and celebrated the fact that women are “taking the reins” of such an important department. “This means that we have very well-prepared women who can be at the head of an institution like this department,” she said.
Melissa, from Scout Group 24, is 13 years old and is in her first year of high school. Her project focuses on sign language . Isabela Marilú V Buyuco, from Scout Group 9, is also 13 years old and her project focuses on combating bullying in schools .
During the ceremony, the young scouts, between nervousness and joy that they themselves expressed moments before entering the facilities, received the insignia from Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda himself and the chief commissioner Alejandro Ríos Covián Silveira, according to his position.
“I don’t like being limited. Why just for one day? Leave them here for 15 days so they can get to know the entire Secretariat,” joked Commissioner Saidén Ojeda, highlighting the hard work of the police officers who strive every day to keep Yucatán as one of the safest states in the country. “Here it is important for them to see the work done by the Public Security Secretariat. There are 5,500 people working in our Secretariat, 4,200 operational, the rest are administrative, and this Secretariat has four undersecretaries who are in charge of making sure it works,” he commented.
Jorge Carlos Villamil Domínguez , president of the Yucatán Province of the Asmac, thanked Secretary Saidén Ojeda for opening the doors and allowing scouts to live these experiences and learn about the work of the police to maintain the security levels in Yucatán. “So, today you will live the experience of how we work and I hope it will have an impact on your lives, because at the end of the day scouting also works for peace in the community. So, we are very grateful to the secretariat, to all of you, because the work that scouting does is always on par with all the good things that impact society.”
After the ceremony, the new "officials" took a tour of the C5i to learn about its functionality and how it operates and then they will carry out various activities with firefighters, paramedics, K9 teams, among others.
