Shock in Argentine soccer: a San Telmo youth player dies during knee surgery.
Tragic news hit Argentine football : Camilo Ernesto Nuin , an 18-year-old footballer from the San Telmo Reserve team, died during knee surgery at the Espora Clinic in the town of Adrogué, Buenos Aires province.
The case is being handled by the Lomas de Zamora Specialized Investigation Unit No. 10 for Neglectful Crimes, headed by prosecutor Carlos Patricio Pérsico . The investigation is investigating whether there was malpractice during the operation, in which the soccer player "suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest" and, despite "performing CPR, they could not save him."
This Thursday, by order of the prosecutor, an autopsy will be performed on the young man's body, and the results, both the preliminary report and the complementary tests, will be key to determining the cause of death and whether or not anyone was responsible, sources familiar with the case explained to this outlet.
Originally from San Antonio de Padua, this left-footed midfielder, who usually wore the number 10 shirt, had spells in the youth teams of Boca Juniors and Independiente before joining San Telmo in 2022. Wearing the "Candomberos" jersey, he made 82 appearances between the youth and reserve teams.
The supporter website @soydetelmo bid him farewell with words of deep emotion: “We spent hours with him, in the locker room, at every training session, every afternoon defending the club's colors.”
The AFA Youth and Children's Football Commission also expressed its condolences, as did other clubs such as Almagro, which expressed their solidarity with the player's family and the institution.
Nuin's death was announced shortly before San Telmo's reserve team match against Defensores de Belgrano, and it had a profound impact on his teammates.
