The European Prosecutor's Office has summoned Barrabés as a suspect for contracts recommended by Begoña Gómez.

The European Prosecutor's Office has named Aragonese businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés and a Red.es executive as suspects in its investigation into allegations of embezzlement, influence peddling, and malfeasance in several contracts recommended by Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Prime Minister.

Legal sources confirmed to EFE that this summons, reported by El Confidencial, comes after the European Public Prosecutor's Office lifted the secrecy of the investigation on May 30.

The European Public Prosecutor's Office took up this complaint because it affected the awarding of various contracts for training activities funded by the European Social Fund, given that this institution is responsible for investigating crimes that threaten the EU's financial interests.

The Prosecutor's Office began its investigation in May 2024 and has conducted various inquiries, including the preparation of expert reports, the collection of numerous witness statements, and the analysis of documents received from various institutions and organizations.

At the time, he took on the main part of the case opened by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado against Begoña Gómez , wife of the President of the Government, which affected the awarding of public contracts to the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, although this judge later expanded the case to include other facts such as the alleged appropriation of master's software or the hiring of an advisor in Moncloa.

Barrabés was director of the master's program at the Complutense University, which he co-directed with Begoña Gómez , and was the beneficiary of several contracts awarded to the joint venture Innova Next and The Valley Business School by the public entity Red.es, financed with European funds.
