The UIF has reported fuel theft since AMLO's administration.

Santiago Nieto Castillo , current director general of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) , stated that during his time at the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF ) of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), he contributed to reporting cases of fiscal huachicol .
"There were at least 10 complaints filed at the time, which affected me, related to customs administrators linked to possible fuel theft. This is something that was reported in the media at the time," Nieto Castillo said.
"Out of respect, I no longer make any reference to my past activities," the official said in an interview with the media after accompanying Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard to his appearance before the Senate .
Nieto Castillo headed the UIF during the first half of the previous six-year term; he resigned in 2021.
Regarding his current position, he highlighted that the IMPI has already surpassed 724 Mexican patents , which is a "historic record."
When asked whether he would seek the candidacy for governor of Querétaro , the official reaffirmed his aspiration.
"Of course there's interest, but it's an interest that isn't yet part of the party's deliberations at this point. The corresponding call for action will have to be issued in due time. There's still a long way to go," he noted.
He also denied that he had brought José María Tapia, former director of the National Fund against Natural Disasters (Fonden) and former Morena candidate for governor of the state, closer to the party. Yesterday, the opposition criticized him for adding one of its leaders to the party, despite having held a position at a trust fund that the ruling party eliminated.
"No, that's not true. We were colleagues with Chema Tapia, I respect him, but I had nothing to do with him joining Morena," Nieto Castillo clarified.
