Trump's Blackout Survival Kit

Trump's Blackout Survival Kit

Okay, Ursula von der Leyen, we accept "kit" as a pet . Okay, let's rescue the battery-powered transistor radios from the vault of memory. As a journalist, I'm just going to use the old tape recorders again. And, as an EU citizen (or a European human being), I'm giving up and stocking up on all the basic supplies the President of the European Commission suggested to be prepared in case of an emergency.

Everyone thought we were talking about a nuclear attack (how naive!), and it turns out a blackout hit us, leaving us in the dark. Of course, only on the Iberian Peninsula, as if Brussels had chosen us as guinea pigs to justify their magic survival kit in case of a catastrophe. And it's strange that they blame solar panels when, if there's one thing we have in Spain, it's sunshine. It seems like someone decided to step on a power line to ruin Monday for millions of Spaniards. Luckily, there's no Champions League match that day. Can you imagine the riot if thousands of football fans had been unable to watch Lamine Yamal's exhibition against Inter Milan on TV? Just thinking about it gives you chills.

The young Barça player's star shines so brightly that it's capable of illuminating the darkness. Not as brightly as Donald Trump, who already believed himself to be the most powerful man in the world before returning to the White House. The US leader thinks he's shining a light on America while dimming the world's, but he's completed 100 days in office with his popularity plummeting .

No matter how much of a narcissistic show he puts on for his centennial , his advisors know he's suffered a major public image blackout, due to his disastrous economic policy, his tariff war on everyone, and his thuggish attitude. So they've had to give him a helping hand (pun intended) to help him shine a little light again, at least among his followers.

Remember the mafia-like image he was left with when he set up an ambush for Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House ? Well, it took Pope Francis' death for Trump to be given the photo of himself and the Ukrainian president meeting quietly in the Vatican , sitting on two chairs, as if they were chatting and discussing Yamal's latest move. And from there, bingo! The light came on again: the US and Ukraine have signed the agreement for the exploitation of mineral resources .

Trump has had to be restrained due to the risk of tripping the fuses in a country where, literally, there have been massive blackouts, especially in the northeast, such as in 1965 (affecting more than 30 million Americans) and in 2003 (affecting 55 million). Curiously, in both cases, the incident also spread to Canada, a country now boycotted by Trump. And this has propelled Mark Carney and the Liberals to power, who won the Canadian elections with their anti-Trump rhetoric.

It's well known that blackouts are a problem for neighborhoods. It's incredibly frustrating when you see the power has come on across the street and you're still in the dark. That's why we need to keep our survival kit handy and arm ourselves with patience in the face of the world we live in. It's what Richard Gere's Buddhist did: "In this life, the most important thing is kindness, and Trump thrives on chaos and destruction." So it's time to prepare for the next big blackout. And don't be left in the dark. And, much less, with only a few candles.
