Ukraine accepts US deal to exploit rare earths, oil and gas

Ukraine has reached an agreement with the US to exploit the country's rare earths, oil and gas, Ukrainian officials have told the Financial Times . The deal is expected to improve relations with the Trump administration and pave the way for US security guarantees vis-à-vis Russia.

The sources have argued that although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had initially rejected the proposal, they have now managed to negotiate more favourable terms for the joint exploitation of their mineral resources, including oil and gas. However, the agreement does not include an explicit security guarantee, as requested by Kiev.
