Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, established the position of the federal government after the United States designated criminal organizations in Mexico and two foreign ones as terrorists.
The Mexican criminal groups mentioned are: Sinaloa Cartel, Jalisco New Generation Cartel, United Cartels, Northeast Cartel, Gulf Cartel and the New Michoacan Family.
The United States government document includes the Tren de Aragua and the Mara Salvatrucha in this same designation as terrorist organizations.
Regarding this, García Harfuch said, "For us, the fight against these organizations did not begin a few days ago when they designated these organizations, but since October, relevant results have been presented."
Regarding the designation of organized crime organizations as terrorist groups by the United States Government, García Harfuch stressed that this type of criminal groups have been a priority for a long time.
“They can designate them in their country as they wish; for us, they were organizations that were a priority for us before. It is very important to mention that the fight against these organizations did not begin for us a few days ago when they designated these organizations. , but since October relevant results have been presented," he said.
He reported that, in addition, following instructions from the President, he communicated with his counterpart in the United States, with whom he discussed issues such as the axes of the National Security Strategy, as well as the actions that have been carried out in recent months.
