However, the question arises as to whether there will be a long weekend until Monday, May 19, since the 15th falls on a Thursday, leaving the possibility of a holiday on Friday, May 16, as well.

According to the SEP, Friday, May 16, is not considered a non-working day, so classes will be held that day; that is, classes will be suspended on the 15th, but resume on the 16th.

Although all preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools across the country will observe a holiday on the 15th of this month, on the 14th, a lecture and reflection will be held in classrooms about the reason for the holiday.

Teachers' Day, a commemorative date on the SEP calendars

Teachers' Day in Mexico is a date that is commemorated and although it is not contemplated in the Federal Labor Law , it is normally a day off at all basic educational levels in the country.

The commemoration dates back to a federal order imposed by Venustiano Carranza once he assumed the presidency of the republic at the end of the Mexican Revolution, which recognized the work of teachers in educating millions of Mexicans throughout the country's history.

In 1917, May 15 was recognized as Teachers' Day in our country with the support of the new government resulting from the armed revolution.

Which entities will benefit from the long weekend?

The only state that will enjoy a long weekend for Teachers' Day is the State of Mexico , and students and employees there will rest on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16, returning to classrooms on Monday.

This is due to an agreement between the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) and the State of Mexico Teachers' Union, and students attending schools sponsored by these unions will not have classes.
