Austria welcomes Olympic champions home with cheers, hugs, and roses after their Eurovision victory.

Austria welcomes Olympic champions home with cheers, hugs, and roses after their Eurovision victory.

Austrian fans enthusiastically welcomed classically trained singer JJ at Vienna Airport on Sunday, following his victory in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest with “Wasted Love.”

As he crossed the gate, hundreds of fans cheered him on; some sang his song, while others surrounded the new star, hugging him and asking for autographs.

The 24-year-old countertenor, whose winning song combines multi-octave operatic vocals with a techno edge, and who also sings at the Vienna State Opera, held his trophy in one hand and a large bouquet of roses in the other.

JJ, whose full name is Johannes Pietsch, was the third Austrian Eurovision winner, following Conchita Wurst in 2014 and Udo Jürgens in 1966.
