Cristian Mac Entyre exhibits geometric, optical, and kinetic works at Zurbarán

The Zurbarán gallery is exhibiting Universes of Interactive Forms , a show that brings together 25 geometric, optical, and kinetic works by Cristian Mac Entyre, created between 2012 and the present. Each piece reveals a profound interest in psychology and perception : the apparent and the real, the manifest and the latent, engage in a constant interplay of mirrors, reflections, and a multitude of meanings.
From his early pieces, marked by a gradual geometrization of the figure, to his current ones, where abstraction reaches its fullest, Mac Entyre has tirelessly explored the relationships between form, movement and color , notes Rodrigo Alonso in the prologue to the exhibition catalogue.
Today, the artist has turned his work towards geometry and is unambiguously oriented towards kineticism and optical dynamism.
“What you see in these paintings are undulating forms that, while not literally representing water, are deeply permeated by it. I don't seek to illustrate it. What I'm trying to do is share something of its behavior, its rhythm, its persistence,” says the artist, who has dedicated himself to kinetic and optical art for over thirty years.
He began his career in the studio of his father, Eduardo Mac Entyre —co-creator of generative art—and has since developed a unique body of work, exhibited in museums, galleries, and cultural venues in Argentina and abroad.
In his paintings, he develops compositions of great visual complexity, constructed from the repetition, superposition, and displacement of lines, or through patterns and volumes that evoke a psychedelic language.
The real volume appears in boxes containing objects reflected by curved mirrors, and in pieces that generate optical interference through the superposition of materials such as acrylic and metal mesh. The result is hypnotic.
In order to incite the viewer's displacement or deception, Mac Entyre uses vibrations based on color theories, superimposed images, glass and acrylics with distorting effects, mirrored curved surfaces, motors, light effects, and a wide variety of gadgets.
For Mac Entyre, painting is not a fixed image but an optical organism : it transforms with the gaze, it changes depending on how one positions oneself.
“That,” says the artist, “has to do with the kinetic, yes, but also with something more vital: the image isn't just one, it's many . And each person, when looking, produces their own version. Just as an optical work vibrates and transforms, so do our perceptions, our connections, and our way of feeling. Nothing is static, neither outside nor inside.”
"Universes of Interactive Forms" can be visited at Zurbarán, Cerrito 1522, Monday through Friday, from noon to 8 p.m. Until June 10.
