Jesse & Joy bet on second chances

Jesse & Joy bet on second chances

Jesse & Joy believe in second chances, especially if there's something that couldn't be expressed due to lack of time, distance, or fear. They did just that on their album "Lo que nos faltó decir" (What We Failed to Say) , in which they brought together friends like Carlos Vives, Elsa and Elmar, and PooBear for a liberating moment in which they hold nothing back.

The cover looks like a note on yellow paper written with a marker; it has scratches that reflect that moment of uncertainty before deciding to speak. They wrote it with their left hand (they're right-handed) to reflect more doubt. Musically, it's an album in which they took risks with songs influenced by regional Mexican music, with Banda MS's Sergio Lizárraga in "Te perdí" and Edén Muñoz in "Nunca deja de llover."

Muñoz's song was composed over 10 years ago. In the case of the MS song, they traveled to the port of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, to record it in the band's studio. Their collaboration can be seen in the accompanying video.

Jesse & Joy will kick off their international tour, "El Despecho," in August. They will perform in Brooklyn, Toronto, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Los Angeles. They also have multiple dates scheduled in Argentina, where they will play in Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Córdoba. The tour will also stop in Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, as well as the National Auditorium in Mexico City on October 1 .

Joy was recently nominated for a Tony Award for her original score for the musical "Real Women Have Curves." It was her first musical and her first nomination for these awards for the best of Broadway theater.
