COLIMA, Col. (apro).- The State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that three alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) were killed and fifteen more civilians were arrested, as part of a confrontation with members of the State Preventive Police (PEP) and the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (Semar).

The incident occurred early Sunday morning near the Cerro de Ortega community in the municipality of Tecomán, on the border with the state of Michoacán. This operation was implemented after a 911 report was received regarding the presence of armed individuals and suspicious activity.

During the operation, the SSP reported, "members of the corporations were attacked by armed civilians, and during the confrontation, three attackers, allegedly linked to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, were killed."

In addition, police and marines arrested 15 people, from whom weapons and tactical equipment were seized, also linked to the aforementioned organization.

In a statement, the SSP reported that federal and state agencies, along with the Tecomán Municipal Public Security Directorate, are carrying out coordinated actions in the area to safeguard the safety of the population and arrest perpetrators of violence.

Separately, following the operation, a group of residents of Cerro de Ortega blocked federal highway Mexico 200 near the town's gas station, protesting the authorities' operations in the area and demanding that government security forces leave the community.

"Saturday night and early this morning, the town was without power, and the government attacked the people, with no regard for the lives or safety of many innocent women and children; our homes were shot at," one of the signs denounced.
