A multidisciplinary medical team from the ISSSTE La Paz General Hospital treats a minor with severe tachycardia.

- After the minor was admitted to the hospital's emergency room in February of this year, medical staff immediately performed an echocardiogram, which revealed pericarditis, swelling and irritation of the thin, sac-like tissue surrounding the heart.
- Due to the complexity of her case, the decision was made to transfer her by air to the 20 de Noviembre National Medical Center in Mexico City, where she continued treatment for 36 days, supported by highly specialized rheumatology and infectious disease physicians.
La Paz, Baja California Sur, July 25, 2025.- A multidisciplinary medical team from the La Paz General Hospital in Baja California Sur, part of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), headed by General Director Martí Batres Guadarrama, provided comprehensive care to a 14-year-old patient who was showing signs of severe tachycardia.
Upon admission to the hospital's emergency room in February of this year, medical staff immediately performed an echocardiogram, which revealed pericarditis, swelling and irritation of the thin, sac-like tissue surrounding the heart.
Faced with this critical situation, a pericardiocentesis procedure was performed by surgeon Raúl Mar Chavira to relieve the pressure on the heart caused by excess fluid, which successfully stabilized and saved the patient's life.
The patient was subsequently diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, a chronic autoimmune disease that complicated her condition by affecting various organs, requiring ongoing specialized care.
Thanks to coordination between specialties, the decision was made to transfer her to a tertiary care facility. Her airlift was arranged on March 14 to the “20 de Noviembre” National Medical Center (CMN) in Mexico City, where she continued her treatment until June 2, supported by highly specialized rheumatology and infectious disease physicians.
The minor is currently being monitored at home and has just graduated from high school.
"We are grateful to this noble institution, which surely has so many success stories; to the committed medical and nursing staff who have accompanied us throughout this journey," the mother expressed.
Participating in this case were pediatric cardiologist Luis Mauricio Padilla; the head of the Pediatrics Department, Emmanuel Torres Arnaut; the coordinator of the Pediatrics Department, Helga Olachea; and surgeon Raúl Mar Chavira, who, along with the nursing team, demonstrated compassionate care throughout the entire process.
On the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, ISSSTE reaffirms its commitment to the health and well-being of its beneficiary population.
