Are the Guanajuato automotive strikes over? Profit-sharing agreements announced
Silao , Guanajuato.- After a de facto strike took place, due to the issue of profits , at the SJMFLEX company, located in Puerto Interior, the Union of Metal-Mechanical Industry Workers ( Sitimm ), indicated that an agreement has been reached to improve, not only this issue, but also other workers' rights .
After the de facto strike broke out on the morning of Thursday, May 22, an agreement was signed at SJMFLEX with SITIMM that evening, allowing workers to return to their productive activities. The negotiations were attended by state government authorities, the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration , company representatives, and a special SITIMM committee composed of affiliated workers," the union reported in a statement.
The 150 workers at this company, affiliated with the Metal-Mechanics Union, not only pointed out the lack of clarity in the payment of profit sharing, but also poor work practices and even alleged harassment of women workers there.
"The main agreements were a $20,000 guarantee bonus , which will be distributed among the 120 active unionized workers, and two days of paid rest. In addition, in accordance with Mexican regulations, the formation of Safety, Training, and Joint Workforce Development Commissions, among others, will be guaranteed," reported Sitimm.
In addition, the Metal-Mechanics Union added that, to guarantee freedom of association and respect for workers' rights, three union delegates were appointed. They will be elected personally, freely, directly, and secretly by the workers on the different shifts. It was also agreed to strengthen protocols for addressing and eradicating violence against women in the workplace.
4 companies resolved the strikeAnother important point is that collective bargaining agreements will be negotiated in the coming days to improve wages for the benefit of workers and their families. SITIMM will be vigilant in ensuring that the rights of affiliated workers are safeguarded against any acts of retaliation that may arise from the situation that occurred," he added.
According to Sitimm himself, this season, where workers have the right to profits, the problem has not only occurred at this company SJMFLEX, but also, although not reaching a strike, there was a work stoppage of 3 thousand workers in 4 Japanese companies for this issue, which were Ashimori, Yutaka, Tokio Roky and KYB, although in these the problem was resolved in a matter of hours.
The results of the negotiations were as follows:
- In Yutaka , a tax-free bonus of 7,500 pesos was obtained. The negotiation was attended by state government authorities, where emphasis was also placed on compliance with NOM 035, which has the main objective of identifying, analyzing and preventing psychosocial risk factors at work, promoting a healthy and favorable work environment.
- At KYB, the Collective Labor Agreement includes a 73-day guarantee bond in the event of non-PTU (Work-related Employment Benefits), which was not honored. Through discussions with the Labor Conciliation and Registration Center, an agreement was reached, with payment set for the last day of May.
- In Ashimori , 20 days of bonuses were granted, which will be included in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The discussion also addressed various regulatory issues to eradicate workplace harassment practices and strengthen compliance by the various joint committees, including vacation time, among others.
- At Tokyo Roki, a 30-day tax-free guarantee bond was obtained, subject to payment criteria based on workdays from the previous fiscal year.
