WASHINGTON — Americans' views of the economy improved in May after five straight months of declines, driven largely by anxiety about the impact of President Donald Trump's tariffs .

Yesterday Tuesday, The Conference Board reported that its consumer confidence index rose 12.3 points in May to 98, up from 85.7 in April, its lowest reading since May 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
