Graduating

Graduating

We're in a time of "graduation." Many young people who complete a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, or a doctorate receive their diplomas around this time.

It's a good idea to celebrate graduations because it emphasizes a good education, which is also essential for a successful career. It's also important for young people who graduate to see the excellent results of the hours they put in to study and take exams, and it's even a good incentive to continue studying.

If this continues, China will be the world's largest economy.

Life expectancy is rising, and there's nowhere to save the funds that will have to be paid to those who retire and then live 50 more years. The only solution is to raise the retirement age. We must avoid self-deception. Our taxes are already high; it's hard to raise them further, but our indebted states and our populations, increasingly better supported by advancing healthcare, will need someone to pay.

But there's still a lot to be done around the world. We have areas like Africa, India, and many parts of Latin America where healthcare is poorly organized and many people can't access quality services. China has made great efforts in this area and has made progress so that a good portion of its 1.5 billion people can access healthcare. This has been a priority for its government, and I had the opportunity to learn about the excellent plan that its president, Xi Jinping, began promoting upon taking office.

When we have access to the news, we can appreciate the amount of time many politicians dedicate to promoting themselves, traveling, placing their colleagues in important positions in public companies or public services, and, in many cases, limiting spending on improving healthcare.

China is now growing rapidly, with a clear commitment from its president to improve the country's quality of life, prevent unemployment, improve public services and private sectors such as healthcare and education, encourage more tourism, and, above all, maintain a peaceful environment.

If this continues, China will become the world's largest economy. This will upset the United States. But the Chinese market is enormous, and many companies held back in America and the United States will gain more market share in China, Africa, and other areas with development potential where China faces no political constraints.

I meet many alumni who come to my school, IESE, for conferences or programs. I see that some have already spent significant time in other countries around the world, but I have the impression that having to spend a few years in China, the United States, or Europe is becoming more acceptable. We're integrating into this world with increasingly global companies.
