Guanajuato, main recipient of Japanese investment

Guanajuato, main recipient of Japanese investment

As a result of the recent working trip to Japan, Guanajuato maintains its position as the main recipient of Japanese investment in Mexico, having finalized commitments totaling $105.8 million that will generate 513 direct jobs, announced Governor Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo.

The agreements reached during the tour will guarantee optimal conditions for companies in the legal, labor, and operational areas, with personalized support through the Undersecretariat for Foreign Investment Attraction, which facilitates specialized procedures and services for investors, Economy Secretary Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar explained to El Economista.

The investment package includes the construction of Senyo's first plant in Abasolo, a company focused on bearing rings for the automotive and aeronautical industries, with 70 direct jobs and a $20 million investment.

The joint venture, Nagase Atecs, will invest $11 million in a new plant in León, specializing in vertical plastic injection molding, a technology that will be implemented outside of Japan for the first time. The project will generate 130 direct jobs.

The company has a vision of generating a local supply chain, one of the administration's priority axes, "they do not bring a reduced version of their Japanese plants, but exactly the same cutting-edge technology, this speaks to their confidence in our talent and infrastructure," said the governor.

NHK Spring, a manufacturer of automotive components, announced a $55 million investment in a new plant next to its existing one in Irapuato, which will generate 233 direct jobs. The company seeks to strengthen its export markets, primarily the United States, but plans to expand even against these odds. Investments in cities like León, Irapuato, and Celaya benefit the entire region. "A company operating in this region can have suppliers in Salamanca or Valle de Santiago," programs like Supplier Day will connect new companies with local suppliers, including MSMEs. "We have been attracting industry investments for over 30 years, strengthening suppliers, who already know that every time a company of this nature arrives, certifications are required."

"We have four assembly plants in the state, and we're already reaching more than 900,000 assembled vehicles per year. Guanajuato has the capacity to produce more than 1 million units annually." These companies directly employ more than 220,000 people and generate around 26,000 exports annually. The three assembly plants visited in Japan "are not considering canceling shifts or reducing operations; they are committed to maintaining their production," said the interviewee.

During a meeting at Mazda's headquarters in Japan, the company's senior executives, including Global CEO Masahiro Moro, reiterated their confidence in Guanajuato as a fundamental base for their operations, after 14 years in the state.

During the visit to Toyota City, the delegation confirmed the firm's commitment to the state, where it has invested $2.3 billion, creating 2,800 direct jobs.
