July arrived with increases in fuel, rates and prepaid plans

July arrived with increases in fuel, rates and prepaid plans

The month of July not only kicked off in Mendoza with sub-zero temperatures, but also with increases that will impact family finances. Among the main ones are increases in rent, fuel, rates, and prepaid medical insurance .

Without a doubt, one of the increases that has the greatest impact on people's wallets is the monthly rent, which, in many cases, exceeds half of family income.

Rent in Mendoza

If the contract was signed in July and establishes an annual adjustment based on the ICL (Lease Contract Index, published by the Central Bank), the increase will be 66% (in July of last year it was 244%). This means that if the tenant had been paying $300,000 in the previous 12 months, they will now pay $498,000.

However, if the agreement was reached after the repeal of the rental law, by decree, in December 2023, the possibilities expand. But to take one of the most common cases, if quarterly updates were agreed upon, also through the ICL (Income Tax Credit), and a July increase is due, it will be 11%.

Fuels / Gasoline / Diesel

However, the increase at service stations in Greater Mendoza reached 2.7%, below the national average, and brought the price of a liter of super gasoline from $1.185 to $1.217, that of Infinia gasoline from $1.388 to $1.425, that of Diesel 500 from $1.244 to $1.278, and that of Infinia Diesel from $1.375 to $1.412.

But there is good news for those who fill up at the state oil company: a 6% discount will be applied to gasoline and diesel. with the option of self-service during the early morning (from 0 to 6) and payment through the company's app. This option is only available at five stations nationwide, and in Mendoza, at the Boedo and Acceso Sur stations (Luján).

Utility rates

Mendoza users who have water and sewage service through Aysam (Mendoza Water and Sanitation Company) will receive a 6.64% increase on this month's bills. This is the second increase in 2025, adding to the 25% increase the provincial government authorized for February, for a cumulative increase of 33.3%.

Discomfort and complaints about the increase in gas rates

Regarding gas, the National Energy Secretariat established a new gas price, which would have an average impact of 2% for users nationwide. However, we will have to watch closely to see if the government decides to eliminate the Cold Zone Regime by decree , under which Mendoza pays 30% to 50% less for this service.

Electricity will also see a 1% rate adjustment in July, which has already been applied in May and June. The change is due to the implementation of new seasonal prices by the Ministry of Energy.

Prepaids

Prepaid health insurance companies will implement increases ranging from 1.2% to 2.6%. For reference, the main providers have set the following increases for the seventh month of the year: Sancor Salud 1.2%, Swiss Medical 1.25%, Hospital Italiano 1.3%, Medifé 1.75%, OSDE 1.85%, Galeno 1.9%, Omint 1.95%, and Medicus 2.65%.

The Government authorizes the fifth increase in prepaid plans since December.

Inflation

Added to these categories is the increase in consumer goods . The consulting firm Focus Market estimated that, in June, food, beverages, and perfumery and cleaning products increased by 2.5%.

To perform the calculation, they analyzed approximately 682 products consumed by Argentines, from various categories, brands, and presentations. "In June, there was a slight increase in inflation, driven primarily by the increase in seasonal products, particularly fruits and vegetables, which showed significant increases due to weather and supply issues," explained Damián Di Pace, director of the consulting firm.

Food prices rose 2.67% in June compared to May; beverages rose 4.67%; personal care products rose 0.86%; and cleaning supplies rose 1.66%.
