MEXICO CITY.— On the second day of the 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum imposed by the Donald Trump administration, the Mexican peso extended its strength against the dollar this Thursday.

The exchange rate opened Thursday at 19.15 pesos per dollar , a level it hadn't seen since October 4, according to wholesale transactions reported by Bloomberg.

The national currency appreciated 0.2% and has accumulated a gain of 1.4% or 28 cents since the beginning of June.

This Thursday, June 5, 2025, the price of the dollar in Mexico opened the retail day with a maximum selling price of 19.1623 pesos per dollar .

According to information from various banking institutions, at the opening, the US dollar is selling for up to 20.3252 pesos at Bank of America branches, while the maximum purchase price is 18.70 pesos at Inbursa branches.

At purchase, the lowest price is 17.90 pesos per dollar offered by Banorte bank, and the highest is 18.70 pesos per dollar offered by Inbursa bank.

According to The Economy Forecast Agency, yesterday, the dollar's exchange rate registered a variation of -0.15% compared to the previous day.

For Thursday, June 6, 2025, the agency sets a maximum purchase price of 19.424 pesos per dollar, while its sales forecast is up to 19.137 pesos per dollar.
