Querétaro Airport will expand its international connections.

Querétaro Airport will expand its international connections.

Querétaro, Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) plans to strengthen its international flight offering. In addition to the recent announcement of the Querétaro-Madrid route, a new route to Los Angeles, California, will be added.

Additionally, a direct flight to Las Vegas, Nevada, is under negotiation, and a route to Panama will be planned, Governor Mauricio Kuri González announced at a press conference to provide details of the Querétaro-Madrid flight, which will begin operating in October.

As part of the Mexico 2025 Tourism Fair, he specified, the Querétaro-Madrid route was confirmed; as well as to Los Angeles, this flight, he added, will represent a gateway to Asia.

He also stated that the state administration is planning a meeting with representatives of Copa Airlines to evaluate the possibility of establishing a direct flight between Querétaro and Panama.

“At the Tianguis Turístico, we also announced a new flight to Los Angeles, and that gives you access to the entire Pacific, Asia, etc. I believe I'll be going with the Secretary of Sedesu to Panama in a couple of months. We're inviting and seeking a meeting with Copa Airlines to bring a direct flight from Panama to Querétaro, and that opens a direct connection to South America. We're also about to finalize... a direct flight to Las Vegas, Querétaro-Las Vegas, with Volaris,” he declared.

Mauricio Kuri stated that the state has the conditions to support its current growth and the new air routes. He acknowledged the challenges the state faces in ensuring water and energy supplies. Regarding the former, he announced that a project will be announced soon, and they are working with the federal government on the electricity supply.

The mobility and connectivity provided by the train linking Mexico City with Querétaro is a new argument for managing this type of air project, the governor noted. The flight to Madrid will arrive on the eve of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where, he added, Querétaro could host one or two national teams.

In this context, representatives from Iberojet and the state government announced details of the direct flight from Querétaro to Madrid, which was announced on April 29 at the Tourist Market held in Baja California.

The Querétaro-Madrid route will be operated by an Airbus 350, with capacity for 432 passengers, with two weekly flights (Thursdays and Sundays) that could increase depending on demand, stated Javier Castillo Medina, Director of Tour Operations at Ávoris.

The executive emphasized that this is the first transcontinental flight for the AIQ, and therefore will be a connecting point with the rest of Europe.

“We understand this is a milestone for Querétaro, and it is for us as well. Querétaro was part of our vision, as a company, for development. For our group of companies, Mexico is very important. (…) It's not just a project for an airline connecting two countries; it's a project for a business group, for a state, where we will provide every opportunity for growth and development in every possible business area,” he stated.

Through the new air route, Querétaro becomes the main connectivity hub for the Bajío region, given that Madrid is the gateway to and from Europe, declared Tourism Secretary Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, highlighting that it represents an opportunity to attract European tourism and investment.

The airline is finalizing details of its operating costs, but plans to offer competitive fares.

For now, the company is completing administrative procedures and submitting applications to airport authorities, expecting to begin selling tickets in a couple of weeks and operating the route in October.

In conjunction with the company, the state administration will launch an advertising campaign in both Europe and Mexico.
