Sheinbaum highlights the confidence of international markets in Mexico

The President Claudia Sheinbaum boasted this Friday that , despite global economic tensions caused by President Trump's tariff war, Mexico remains a point of international trust .

The President emphasized that the Mexican economy is strong , especially due to the stability shown by the peso and the national financial system .

During "La Mañanera," Dr. Sheinbaum highlighted a series of positive economic indicators, in addition to emphasizing some progress achieved during the administration of her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, such as poverty reduction.

In this context, Sheinbaum highlighted the decrease in the 10-year interest rate , which implies a lower perceived risk, as well as the strength of the peso against the dollar, which opened this Friday at 19.14 units per dollar, its best level so far in 2025 .

"That is to say, there is confidence in our country […] even with all the international economic difficulties," he added, noting that both public and private investment continue to grow.

He also cited statements by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, who expressed his intention to "reimagine the relationship with Mexico to do business together."

On the other hand, the President highlighted the recent review by the World Bank on poverty reduction in the country , which concluded that 11 million Mexicans were lifted out of poverty between 2018 and 2022. , almost two million more than initially reported.

"That is to say, it is no longer 9.5 [million Mexicans who have escaped poverty], but 11 million , according to the World Bank. That's to lift your spirits ", he stressed.

The President framed these achievements as part of the continuity of the political movement she leads, known as the Fourth Transformation, arguing that the macroeconomic fundamentals are solid and that her government will continue to promote development with social justice .

Forecasts by analysts and various international organizations, however, warn that Mexico's economy faces a marked slowdown this year .

In May, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) lowered its growth forecasts for the Mexican economy, the second largest in Latin America, estimating growth of 0.1% in 2025, compared to the 0.6% forecast three months ago, and below the 1.2% expansion recorded in 2024 .
