The Barcelona and Madrid Metros are restoring service and the M-30 tunnels are opening gradually, but the Rodalíes tunnel is suspended.

The Barcelona and Madrid Metros are restoring service and the M-30 tunnels are opening gradually, but the Rodalíes tunnel is suspended.

Although more than 99% of electricity demand has been restored following Monday's blackout , there are still incidents affecting public transport in various parts of Spain. In fact, the DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) has urged this morning that "given yesterday's national blackout," it is advisable to "avoid driving unless strictly necessary."

The Madrid Metro was still closed early this morning, but the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced that it would reopen at 8:00 a.m. this Tuesday, with the exception of line 7A.

Eighty percent of trains "during a normal morning rush hour" will run, Ayuso assures. Meanwhile, all EMT and intercity bus lines are operating at 100% capacity and are free throughout the day to avoid overcrowding by private vehicles. "The region's six transport interchanges remain open as normal," the president adds.

In Catalonia, the Barcelona Metro was operating from the very beginning. According to Efe, it has been running continuously throughout the night to provide service following the general blackout. Thus, service has been restored on all lines, according to a report from Barcelona Metropolitan Transport on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

In Valencia , Metrovalencia resumed metro and tram service this Tuesday with the reopening of its stations, but warned of disruptions and delays on some lines.

The Rodalíes in Catalonia is not working and the one in Madrid is partially working.

In Catalonia , the Generalitat railways are not operating. Rodalíes de Catalunya also reported this on Twitter, recommending the use of alternative transport for now. "At this time, the restoration of service is suspended due to unstable power grid voltage to ensure traffic flow. We will continue to provide updates," they warn, adding that they have no forecast for when the power voltage will stabilize.

The Madrid commuter train , however, is operating, but only partially, for now. Early this morning, they announced on their Twitter account that line C5 is not operating, line C3 is operating, but from Chamartín to Pinto in both directions, and the remaining lines are operating, but at 50% capacity for now.

The commuter trains in Cádiz, Seville, and Málaga also remain out of service Tuesday morning due to power outages caused by the blackout . This is also the case with the Avant and Medium Distance trains in Andalucía , according to Renfe. There is also no service on the Madrid-Huelva and Madrid-Cádiz trains due to power outages.

Services will be gradually resumed throughout the day depending on the restoration of service on the affected lines and sections, Renfe added.

In other autonomous communities such as Asturias and Cantabria, the commuter rail service is now operating normally, according to Renfe.

Trains, including high-speed trains, are partially back to normal.

Transport Minister Oscar Puente announced a few hours ago that high-speed service will operate this Tuesday, except for "some connections." He announced that early this morning the high-speed lines that were de-energized were the Hornachuelos-Seville and the Galicia-Sanabria corridor. "This means we cannot resume normal service in Córdoba-Seville-Huelva, Cádiz, or Galicia," he said.

Shortly after, Renfe announced that commercial services for this Tuesday would operate normally in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and the Basque Country.

The M30 tunnels in Madrid are reopening gradually.

The tunnels on Madrid's M30 highway have reopened gradually after being closed as a precaution due to the massive power outage that affected the entire peninsula, according to the company that manages the highway, which indicates that the only main roadway that remains closed is Avenida de Portugal.

"At 3:20 a.m., all the main roads of the #M30 were open, except for Avenida de Portugal," the road's management company said on the social network X.

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, today asked all citizens to "minimize" travel and to call 112 only if it is "truly urgent."
