The Board will ensure that Azucarera does not pass on transportation costs to sugar beet growers after the closure of La Bañeza.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development will monitor the commitments made by Azucarera following the announcement of the closure of the La Bañeza plant (León). It has also assured that farmers "will not experience any changes" and that it will cover the logistics costs of transporting the beets to the Toro factory in the province of Zamora.
"We will monitor compliance with the commitments made by the company to beet growers. We will focus on actions, not words," said Minister María González Corral, following the extraordinary meeting of the Regional Agricultural Council held this Monday to analyze Azucarera's restructuring plan and its impact on beet cultivation.
María González Corral also called for Azucarera to improve its policy toward the sugar beet sector . She also emphasized the importance of the Castile and León sector achieving "greater levels of autonomy" in the sugar market, and therefore called for a greater focus on sugar beet cultivation.
For their part, and according to the regional government, representatives of the professional agricultural organizations (OPA) have expressed their "concern" about what might happen in upcoming sugar beet campaigns , a concern that the regional minister has promised to convey directly to the company.
González Corral explained to the takeover bid representatives the efforts made by the Castile and León Regional Government, including various meetings held with employee representatives and the company itself, in which the President of the Regional Government, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, participated.
