The INE has received 38 complaints of political gender violence against 26 candidates for the PJF (Federal Justice Party).

The National Electoral Institute (INE) announced that it has not found sufficient evidence to determine the ineligibility of any candidate for the Judiciary for failing to comply with the so-called "8 of 8" system, being a fugitive from justice, or owing child support.
In presenting a preliminary report on its follow-up to 13 specific complaints filed by citizens and civil society organizations against various candidates for allegedly violating gender norms, the INE reported that it has not found sufficient findings to date to withdraw their candidacies.
According to the INE, it is essential that the reports be accompanied by final resolutions issued by the competent authorities, as required by the current constitutional and legal framework.
To date, it has been reported that 38 complaints have been received against 26 candidates from the Judiciary for alleged crimes of political violence against women based on gender, and five cases received between June 1 and 3 are currently under review.
The INE also reported that it will continue to review the reported candidates for arrest warrants or for any final ruling suspending their political and electoral rights.
Cases in detail
Among the charges are three alleged child support debtors; three for domestic violence and one for equivalent domestic violence; one for rape of a minor and fugitive from justice; one for crimes against sexual freedom and security; one for political violence against women; one for being a fugitive from justice; one for workplace harassment; and one for loss of political and electoral rights.
For her part, Councilor Carla Humphrey emphasized the importance of strengthening mechanisms for verifying information provided regarding potential complaints, as she found the lack of findings strange.
“It is very striking to me that in all the cases presented, the lack of findings has been determined. One of my colleagues has already made an observation in this regard. And at this point, it is striking because the seriousness of the reported conduct warrants a more thorough investigation, with not just one request, but several, to determine and assess the information available to the authorities we are requesting,” he said.
Meanwhile, Councilor Dania Ravel noted that the report details three individuals aspiring to serve on the SCJN, the Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal, and a Circuit Collegiate Court. They have been accused of Political Violence Against Women and/or fall under one of the "8 of 8" system's criteria.
It should also be noted that some cases will continue to be investigated, as there is no lack of conclusion without a firm response from some authorities.
"The case of a candidate for magistrate of a Circuit Court who was reported for domestic violence is also mentioned. We have not received a response from the competent authorities in this case, but I believe it would be appropriate, in this specific case, since it has already been determined that there was a complaint on this matter, but we cannot access it, that the person accused be made aware of this complaint as well so that they can express whatever they deem appropriate," he said about one of these cases.
Finally, it was indicated that the investigations will continue until June 15, when the INE will declare the election valid and issue majority certificates to the winners of the Judicial election.
