Chihuahua surpasses two thousand measles infections

Yesterday, the Chihuahua Department of Health announced in its daily technical report that measles cases in the state have surpassed two thousand.

According to the count, a total of 2,006 cases had accumulated across the state as of Monday.

Of that total, three people remain hospitalized and four have died from the virus.

Regarding the municipalities most affected by this disease, Cuauhtémoc stands out, with 886 infections to date, representing 44.17% of the state's measles cases.

Another municipality with the highest rate of cases of the disease is Chihuahua City, with 395, followed by Nuevo Casas Grandes, where as of Monday, June 9, there were 144 infections.

In the case of Ciudad Juárez, the Ministry of Health reported 51 measles cases to date.

Over the weekend, the state agency set up large vaccination centers to immunize as many people as possible against the disease and prevent the virus from spreading further.

According to official data, the people who have lost their lives have been minors who were not vaccinated against measles.

According to official data, only 14% of those infected with measles in Chihuahua have required hospitalization, so most of these patients have fared well.

Regarding the detected cases, the state agency said that the majority of them are immunosuppressed individuals, young children, and pregnant women, i.e., the population most vulnerable to the disease.

The public continues to be urged to stay home and avoid unnecessary outings, travel, or transportation if they experience symptoms such as fever, rash, cough, or conjunctivitis, or if they have had contact with someone with measles. It is preferable to self-isolate for a minimum of 7 to 14 days and seek prompt medical attention.
