Bogotá Fashion Week kicks off with a tribute to Latin American fashion

Bogotá Fashion Week kicked off this Monday with a show that evoked Latin sentiment and paid homage to popular fashion inside a former local factory restored for cultural events.
The second floor of what was for many years the El Gallo pasta factory , in downtown Bogotá, was filled with textiles, lights, colors , prints and fashion to inaugurate the eighth edition of Bogotá Fashion Week (BFW), the capital's main fashion showcase.
The inaugural runway show was led by Colombian designer Jorge Duque, who presented his collection "Cabinet of Latin Curiosities," a tribute to popular fashion .
In a statement to EFE, the executive president of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB), the organizing entity of the BFW, Ovidio Claros, highlighted the growing inclusion of entrepreneurs from the popular economy and, specifically, the importance of the location of the opening event.
"This is the essence of who we are, who we were, and who we will be. These types of runways remind us, invoke us, present us, and propel us toward a better future ," the executive explained.
Intense colors such as yellow, turquoise and emerald dominated the catwalk , contrasting with black and white bases on models of all sizes and heights, wearing corsetry, plaid prints, lots of shine and backcombed hairstyles reminiscent of the 1950s .
The fair , which will run until Thursday, May 22 at the Ágora convention center in Bogotá, expects to bring together more than 140 national and international brands, buyers from 22 countries and thousands of attendees, including textile industry professionals and the general public interested in learning about the latest trends .

Bogotá Fashion Week is not only a showcase of creativity, but also a business platform. The organization plans more than 1,000 meetings between international designers and buyers at business events, which will include delegations from South Korea, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
The program also includes open-to-the-public discussion sessions featuring figures such as writer Amalia Andrade, journalist Mónica Fonseca, stylist Franklin Ramos, fashion expert Pilar Castaño, and designer Támara González Litman.
An initiative from last year's edition that is being repeated is the incorporation of 11 entrepreneurs from popular economy sectors in the traditional Bogotá neighborhoods of Restrepo and San Victorino, as part of the '[PUENTE]' initiative , which seeks to integrate new actors into the city's creative ecosystem, and who, according to Claros, "are going to New York" this year.
A total of 27 catwalks are scheduled over the three days, with 45 brands and designers presenting their collections.
