The remains of renowned Dominican singer-songwriter Cheo Zorrilla will be laid to rest in the La Paz Chapel of the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue this Monday, June 9, starting at 2:00 p.m.

Zorrilla (75 years old) will be transferred on Tuesday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. to the Puerta del Cielo cemetery , where he will receive a Christian burial.

The information was provided by his family on behalf of his wife, Maura Soto de Zorrilla ; his children, Pamela Zorrilla and Álvaro Sánchez; his grandchildren, Frank Omar and Elena; his siblings; and his nephews and nieces.

The composer was an active member of the Voices of Joy Choir of the Parish of Jesus Christ, the High and Eternal Priest, where he attended, and which expressed its condolences .

He added: "He was an established composer , with good lyrics, good melodies, and who managed to greatly impact music, being recorded by great national and international artists, such as Danny Rivera, Chucho Avellanet, among others. Important songs such as Apocalipsis, Al nacer cada enero, Los hombres de rabia lloran; he won many international awards at song festivals, such as the OTI. Cheo Zorrilla was a great composer and an excellent person. As composers, we feel very saddened by his passing. He was a man who could continue enriching the national repertoire."

Born in Tamayo , Bahoruco province , Zorrilla began his musical career at an early age, excelling as a trumpet player in his community. Years later, he moved to Santo Domingo, where he furthered his formal musical training and took the first steps in his artistic career.

Throughout his career , he composed songs that became classics of Dominican music, such as "Apocalipsis", "Al nacer cada enero" and "Los hombres de rabia lloran", performed by renowned artists such as Danny Rivera and Chucho Avellanet.

Considered one of the Dominican composers most recorded by international artists and author of great hits in the Latin American romantic repertoire, Cheo Zorrilla was widely awarded for his career .

In 2016, he was immortalized in the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in Miami , United States, becoming the first Dominican to achieve this.

Zorrilla also served as a diplomat and social manager , as well as a candidate for a full member of the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
