Miley Cyrus presents 'Something Beautiful' in Tribeca

Miley Cyrus presented her experimental pop opera, ' Something Beautiful ', on Friday night at New York's Tribeca Festival, in which she explores the aesthetics and musicality of her new album of the same name while "redefining beauty ."

"The word 'beautiful' is so individual and unique. For each of us, beauty can be so different .

"It could be a memory, it could be a person, it could be an object, it could be a gift, it could be anything," the artist said in the discussion following the screening of the documentary , which took place at the Beacon Theater in New York.

The singer entered the theater looking like a movie star in a mesh dress filled with gold glitter and a fringed coat, accompanied by her boyfriend Maxx Morando and her mother Tish Cyrus. During the documentary , Cyrus proudly appeared, enjoying herself and dancing to the songs from her seat.

Her fans filled the venue and screamed and clapped their hands and voices repeatedly. On one occasion, one of them begged her to sing "The Climb," to which Cyrus agreed, singing the opening lines of one of her most iconic songs.

Miley Cyrus is "reborn"

One of the songs on the album is ' Reborn ' and that's what the star seems to be doing in this film , in which music is the protagonist.

"I think there's nothing more beautiful on the planet than a deep emotion . It's an expression of my entire career. I've always wanted to share the best and the worst with you," the singer reflected, addressing her fans .

The artist thus presents this documentary , which draws from her ninth studio album —released on May 30—but is an even more comprehensive work in which she has opted for "fantasy-filled" experimentation , both musically and aesthetically, across the thirteen songs that comprise it.

Each one, which has its own presentation , deals with different themes from healing and transformation to the search for beauty in the darkness, with dances and movements in which she explores her sexuality.

For example, there are ballads like 'More to Lose'; straightforward pop songs like 'Easy Lover'; more disco-inspired ones like 'Walk of Fame'; and the two Interludes, pure psychedelia with no lyrics.

Great references

Although the singer assured that it is a unique piece and something that "no one has ever done before," she acknowledged that thanks to some of her idols, such as Tina Turner , Donna Summer , and Diana Ross , she has been able to embark on her own path.

"This is my journey, but it's been made much easier because they've already knocked down all the doors for me," he said.

The artist was also inspired by Pink Floyd's surrealist film, 'The Wall' (1982), although according to her, with "better costumes ."

It also features a renowned collaboration , "written in the stars," according to the singer, with supermodel Naomi Campbell, who appears in the video for 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved,' reminiscent of Madonna's 'Vogue.'

A high-level locker room

The pop diva acknowledged on more than one occasion that the film's costumes took up a large part of the budget .

With outfits loaned from the archive of French designer Thierry Mugler - who died in 2022 - and designs made for her by Casey Cadwallader , the firm's creative director until last March, the singer fuses music, fashion and film.

According to Cyrus, " fashion is a tool and can be used to convey stories ."

"I've always wanted to use it in a way that supports the music, not that it becomes the pillar of this entire foundation ," he added, noting that he wants it to convey stability in the face of passing trends.

In the film, the singer wears designs by other big names in fashion , such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen, with rhinestones , volume and, at times, dark, leather designs with a punk aesthetic.

Cyrus produced and co-directed this work (along with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter), in which Morando also participated , on drums or acting alongside the singer.
