Possible measles exposure at Shakira concert under investigation

The New Jersey Department of Health said Tuesday it is investigating a possible mass exposure to measles after a person with the viral illness attended Shakira 's concert last Thursday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey .
Authorities added that the person lives outside of New Jersey and that there is a possibility that this large-scale exposure occurred between 7:30 p.m. local time on May 15 and 1 a.m. the following day, the time frame during which the event took place, and the person leaving the event.
Anyone who believes they may have measles is advised to call their doctor before going to any doctor's office or emergency room for treatment so special measures can be taken to prevent further spread, officials stressed, urging people to also stay up-to-date on their vaccinations .
The virus spreads easily through the air, but so far, no new cases have been reported in New Jersey .
Symptoms of measles , which include cough, runny nose, eye inflammation, sore throat, fever, and the usual red rash, do not appear until 10 to 14 days after exposure .
- Serious complications of measles can include pneumonia or encephalitis, officials say.
This Shakira concert was the second stop on her 'Women Don't Cry Anymore' tour in the US and was held at the largest venue in the New York area, the Metlife Stadium (about 82,000 seats) in New Jersey .
