FOPEA warned of an increase in attacks on the press following the confirmation of Cristina's conviction.

The Argentine Journalism Forum (FOPEA) denounced a string of acts of violence against journalists and media outlets, and warned of the establishment of "a climate of intolerance in the country that affects journalistic work and limits freedom of expression." While it considered this to be nothing new, it "intensified" following the Supreme Court's ratification of the conviction against former President Cristina Kirchner.

In a statement, the institution recalled that "following the violent attacks on the news stations TN and El Trece last Tuesday, a series of intimidating incidents occurred."

He cited the attack on Wednesday, June 11 , by protesters while covering a march against the Supreme Court; on Friday, June 13, the headquarters of the streaming channel Olga TV was attacked by militants; and the facade of the Radio Rivadavia building was vandalized with graffiti on Saturday, June 14.

"That same day, threatening slogans against our colleague Gustavo Noriega appeared in front of his home. Meanwhile, on Monday the 16th, Neura's studio was covered in graffiti targeting Alejandro Fantino," he added.

For FOPEA , these incidents represent "a clear limitation on freedom of expression because they aim to prevent the press from fulfilling its duty to report what is happening." It warned that these types of incidents, which it described as "threats," can not only endanger the material assets of media outlets but also "the very lives of colleagues."

For this reason, the organization maintained that "in times of social and political upheaval such as the one the country is experiencing, journalism must strengthen its rigor in its reporting" and therefore urged "every political actor to exercise extreme tolerance and respect for the work of the press."
