Kicillof spoke after the death of Thiago, the 7-year-old boy shot by a police officer in La Matanza.

Kicillof spoke after the death of Thiago, the 7-year-old boy shot by a police officer in La Matanza.

Towards Friday night, the governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof , referred to the death of Thiago Correa , the 7-year-old boy shot by a Federal Police officer during a shootout with four criminals in La Matanza.

"We deeply regret Thiago's death, an irreparable tragedy that fills us with pain," the official wrote at the beginning of his message on X, minutes after the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, redoubled her defense of the police officer and asked for life imprisonment for the thieves.

"We respectfully support his family and hope that the courts will quickly clarify the facts, determine responsibility , and apply the appropriate sanctions," Kicillof added.

Along the same lines, the governor wrote: "From the province of Buenos Aires, we continue to take charge of what is our responsibility : increasing investment, state presence, and our daily commitment so that our people can live in peace, without fear or violence. There is still much to be done . At the same time, we will continue implementing actions and policies that protect a deeply damaged social fabric."

And he concluded: " There is no magic or marketing gimmicks that can solve such complex and profound problems . All that remains is to work seriously to bring protection, opportunity, and integration to an increasingly fractured society."

Previously, as a counterpoint to her position, Minister Bullrich also addressed Thiago's death on social media, which she called "sad and painful news."

In the same message, the executive branch official called for life imprisonment for the thieves. "If they hadn't gone out to steal, there wouldn't be a single family destroyed today."

The Ministry of Security will request a change of charge in the murder of Thiago Correa.

Earlier this Friday, Bullrich had come out in defense of 21-year-old police officer Facundo Daniel Aguilar Fajardo, who is being held for excessive self-defense. "The criminals are directly responsible," she said at a press conference.

Thiago Correa, the 7-year-old boy shot by a federal police officer who confronted four robbers who assaulted him in La Matanza, died this Friday at the San Justo Children's Hospital. This was confirmed to the press by his father, Víctor Correa, and his mother, Diara Medina. The man came to the hospital door around 8:15 p.m. and delivered the worst news.
