Mauricio Macri and Javier Milei spoke after the elections in Buenos Aires City and eased tensions ahead of the agreement in Buenos Aires.

Mauricio Macri and Javier Milei spoke after the elections in Buenos Aires City and eased tensions ahead of the agreement in Buenos Aires.

Following the heated dispute between Mauricio Macri and Javier Milei over the legislative elections in the City of Buenos Aires, the leader of the PRO party contacted the president to congratulate him on La Libertad Avanza's victory in the elections. The PRO party and LLA are currently negotiating a possible electoral agreement for the elections in the Province of Buenos Aires, where they will compete against the Peronist party in one of its strongest districts.

On Thursday, the former president decided to resume talks with the current president four days before the elections, which once again highlighted the differences between the two sides and even called into question the future of the relationship between the two sides. Through a WhatsApp message, Mauricio Macri spoke with Javier Milei to congratulate him on Manuel Adorni's strong performance in the elections on Sunday the 18th, a message Milei expressed his gratitude for, according to Infobae.

The Buenos Aires City elections ended with a victory for Manuel Adorni, who beat Silvia Lospennato by 15 points in the main Macri stronghold. The night before the vote, various X accounts began circulating an apocryphal video created using artificial intelligence in which Macri announced the withdrawal of Lospennato's candidacy. The former president's entourage denounced the video as a "dirty campaign" by the Libertarians, who shared it.

"They're trying to establish electoral fraud and confuse the electorate by using tricks that some audiences might interpret as real . […] Beyond its effectiveness, this deceitful action demonstrates a profound disregard for electoral rules and, ultimately, democracy itself. The PRO will take whatever legal action it deems appropriate," Macri said before the election.

On Sunday, Milei called Macri a " crybaby" after being asked for his opinion on the case and downplayed the impact of the video. " It's part of the logic of social media ," the president asserted. Despite the clash between the two leaders, the PRO and LLA resumed talks ahead of the Buenos Aires elections through their representatives: Cristian Ritondo for the PRO and Sebastián Pareja for the LLA.

The government has reportedly changed its stance ahead of the elections, abandoning its plan to integrate Macri leaders into the LLA structure, which was the most contentious point during the negotiations, and is willing to form a coalition with both parties. The deadline to present alliances in Buenos Aires is July 9; the deadline for submitting candidacies is July 19, and August 8 is the last day to confirm ballots.
