New director of the National Statistics Office appointed

By decree 269-35, President Luis Abinader appointed Mildred Gabriela Martínez Mejía as the new director of the National Statistics Office (ONE) .
Although the decree was issued on May 22 , the appointment was announced this Tuesday by the Presidency through a press release.
Work experienceShe has over 20 years of professional experience in applied social research , with expertise in areas such as health, gender, migration , and service quality. Throughout her career, she has led interdisciplinary teams , demonstrating her capacity for results-oriented management and evidence-based decision-making.
She served for 16 years at the ONE , where she held roles such as head of the Division and later the Census Department.
From these positions, he played a decisive role in the execution of the IX National Population and Housing Census (2010) and the National Agricultural Pre-Census (2014), as well as in specialized census operations for the planning of targeted public policies.
His career also includes his work at the National Council for HIV and AIDS ( Conavihsida ), where he led actions aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV , from a human rights-based approach.
She collaborated with the Ministry of Economy , Planning and Development as a technical assistant to the High Level Commission for Sustainable Development , participating in the identification of priority goals aligned with the National Development Strategy and the Multi-Year Public Sector Plan.
Martínez Mejía is a clinical psychologist , graduated Cum Laude from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD, 2001).
- Master's Degree in Strategic Public Management, awarded by the Global Institute of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences in conjunction with the Rey Juan Carlos University, Spain.
- Master's Degree in Applied Statistics from the UASD.
- Specialization in Scientific Research Methodology , with Suma Cum Laude honors from the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.
In 2020, she took over as director of the Directorate of Demographic, Social and Environmental Statistics at the ONE , from where she has promoted important initiatives aimed at leveraging administrative records and non-traditional sources, with special emphasis on environmental statistics .
It has also promoted the creation of new publications such as the Atlas of Environmental Statistics and the Yearbook of Environmental Statistics , both published for the first time in 2024. It has also spearheaded the production of short-term statistics to address emerging challenges, such as monitoring the sargassum phenomenon.
Mildred has coordinated the report on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development and currently coordinates the National Coordinating Committee for monitoring the commitments made in this area.
