The State Coastal Demarcation once again attacks beach nautical clubs.

The State Coastal Demarcation once again attacks beach nautical clubs.

Hundreds of appeals, dozens of parliamentary initiatives, countless political meetings, and persistent attempts over more than 20 years to renew the concession of maritime land rights for beach nautical clubs have been in vain. In Catalonia, neither the Coastal Department nor the political leaders of the Ministry of Ecological Transition have heeded the pleas of the 10 affected sports entities on the Catalan coast, and they are once again seeking their destruction.

First, the Cabrera and Pineda clubs were ordered to take action. Now it's the turn of the Sitges Club de Mar: "You are hereby informed that the planned date for the closure of the facilities and the commencement of work to remove a continued occupation without administrative title is June 2." The decision will require the demolition of the social building, the pool, and the storage areas. They also warn that the civil servants of the Coastal Demarcation will be "assisted, if necessary, by the Security Forces and Corps," the notification states.

The Sitges Sea Club regrets that the State has denied the precautionary measure to suspend the ruling, through an appeal and other appeals that have not yet been resolved, as well as the allegations presented by the Generalitat (Catalan Government) during the previous term. In the case of Sitges, the club was declared a Cultural Asset of Local Interest and is in the process of being granted national status, another fact that the State also ignores. Therefore, the club does not rule out any action: "If necessary, we will chain ourselves to the gates."

In Catalonia, other clubs affected by the demolition order issued by the State Coastal Authority are CN Calella, CM Vilassar, CN Bétulo de Badalona, CN Castelledefels, and Marítim de Torredembarra. All of them consider the demolition of coastal areas "a flagrant illegality and an attack on the property laws of the Catalan public administrations."

The Sitges Sea Club has been operating uninterruptedly on the coast for 73 years.

The Sitges Club de Mar building is over 63 years old, 11 years younger than the club itself, which has maintained an uninterrupted history and boasts the municipality's first swimming pool. It has over 400 members, 120 children, and 30 jobs "that will be lost because the club cannot afford to cover the compensation," creating a dramatic situation for employees.

Water sports enthusiasts in Catalonia cannot understand how centers that once provided a great source of high-level athletes can be completely destroyed. "Then they'll want the medalists to proudly fly the flag of a state" that has allowed the destruction of iconic coastal nautical clubs.

The reactions to the warning from the General Directorate for the Coast and the Sea, issued on May 8 by the Government Delegation and the Coastal Demarcation, have also sparked outrage among the political class. Thus, the Sitges City Council, headed by Republican Aurora Carbonell, "regrets that a moratorium to postpone the action has not been considered." This position is conveyed directly to the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, "who has pledged to study and address this issue."

For her part, the spokesperson for the Junts Parliamentary Group in the Congress of Deputies, Míram Nogueras, who has been negotiating a moratorium for years, declared yesterday that "the Socialists don't care about the people or their legacy. They are destroying Catalonia, little by little. We will do everything possible to prevent this savagery."
