Trump takes it as "guaranteed" that Spain will allocate 5% of GDP to defense.

US President Donald Trump declared himself absolutely convinced this Friday that Spain will fulfill its 5% spending commitment to NATO.
"Spain hasn't complied, but it will. In fact, it's guaranteed to . It was the only country that, in some way, tried to avoid putting up the money," the US president said at a press conference.
NATO leaders on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to raising their defense spending target to 5% of GDP over the next decade, in an agreement that renews their military investment horizon, driven by pressure from the US president and the turbulent security landscape marked by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Trump, who on Wednesday threatened Spain with trade sanctions for its reluctance to increase defense spending, explained that the agreement reached at this week's NATO summit to increase contributions demonstrates the NATO's "respect" for his administration .
"NATO has shown great respect for our country," Trump said at a press conference on Friday. "We've accomplished something no one thought possible: going from 2% to 5% funding," the president added, estimating "a trillion dollars more a year" in spending thanks to this agreement.
"We're getting along very well with many of those countries. They're beginning to respect us again , whereas six months ago that wasn't the case," the US president added.
