Without the CGT and with La Cámpora at the forefront, the PJ marches to Plaza de Mayo in support of Cristina Kirchner.

Without the CGT and with La Cámpora at the forefront, the PJ marches to Plaza de Mayo in support of Cristina Kirchner.

Peronism, with all its variants, is preparing a massive march to Plaza de Mayo this Wednesday in support of former President Cristina Kirchner , who is under house arrest in her apartment in the Monserrat neighborhood after the Supreme Court upheld the six-year prison sentence handed down to her in the Vialidad case.

The demonstration is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. , and, in principle, there will not be a gathering in San Juan and San José , near the former president's home where she is serving her sentence, to march in front of the Casa Rosada, as had initially been planned. As agreed at the PJ Council meeting with the Peronist governors, held at the headquarters at 130 Matheu Street, the groups will gather directly in the plaza.

One of the facts is that the protest does not have the organic support of the CGT , which, while expressing its solidarity with the former president by describing the court's sentence as "an unjust, biased, and arbitrary decision," left the unions that want to join the demonstration free to act "to show their support," according to a statement.

Furthermore, the union leaders stood up the PJ leadership, a decision made at a meeting that ended in shouting matches , as reported by Clarín. The CGT leadership decided to skip the meeting due to distrust in the atmosphere in which they would be received by the leaders, deputies, senators, and mayors who make up the council.

The meeting was scheduled for 3 p.m., but at first, it was postponed for two hours. When the ruling granting Cristina house arrest was announced, they decided to back out, prompting some annoyed expressions among the leaders most aligned with the former president.

After informing Senator José Mayans, in charge of organizing the various party meetings, that they would not be attending, the CGT issued a statement, not very forceful and almost informative in tone, announcing that a demonstration would be called in support of the former president.

The move by the CGT leadership had a controlled impact on the K-12 ranks, who avoided entering into controversy and saved their criticism for another occasion. "This is a pivotal moment. People are going to Cristina's house to demand her release," remarked a K-12 extremist on the sidewalk on Matheu Street, avoiding any confrontation with the leaders on Azopardo Street and emphasizing that all attention will be focused on the situation of the leader of Peronism.

The truth is that at the historic headquarters on Matheu Street there was an intense afternoon this Tuesday because after learning of the court's decision to grant him house arrest, Mayans received a call from the former president's entourage giving the order to lower the planned march to Comodoro Py , which was the original idea of the K's from the moment the Court ratified the ruling in the case that was initiated against him for corruption in public works.

But while on the first floor of the PJ headquarters it was being decided that the event would take place in Plaza de Mayo , the ultra-K and the Peronists were emphasizing their differences over the course of events.

The less fanatical understood that "pressure from Peronism" had prevented the courts from forcing the former president to appear in Comodoro Py, despite the implications that Cristina's image in a mayor's office would have had. They also emphasized that the central objective was to ensure the success of the rally in Plaza de Mayo , in a context where the government also has a stake , promising a robust security operation.

Meanwhile, the sectors closest to La Cámpora demanded that all protest fronts remain firm, with access blockades and forceful measures in all sectors, something they were unable to guarantee due to the lack of support from the CGT.

But above all, they complained about the "rigor" of the former president's detention conditions, as she is restricted from visiting family members and lawyers and will be placed under an electronic device, among other restrictions imposed by the court ruling.

The truth is that the day at the PJ headquarters ended with a meeting between the council and the governors to decide on their support for Cristina. Four of the seven governors were present at the headquarters on Matheu Street : Axel Kicillof ( Buenos Aires), Sergio Ziliotto (La Pampa), Gustavo Melella (Tierra del Fuego), and Ricardo Quintela (La Rioja).

Gerardo Zamora (Santiago del Estero) and Guido Insfrán (Formosa) participated via Zoom . Raúl Jalil (Catamarca) also joined via streaming when the conclave was just getting underway, while Osvaldo Jaldo, from Tucumán, who is one of the government's allies in Congress, did not participate.

At the closing ceremony, representatives and senators met with the party leadership to decide how Wednesday's protest will be organized.
