Apple unveils iOS 26 with more AI and innovations

NEW YORK (EFE) — Technology company Apple yesterday unveiled a redesign of its interface across all its platforms, a new version of its mobile operating system, and features based on artificial intelligence, during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held in Apple Park, California.

"This is our most comprehensive design update to date," said Alan Dye, Apple's vice president of Human Interface. The executive emphasized that for the first time, the design is universal across all the company's platforms.

The new design, dubbed "Liquid Glass," incorporates crystal-like transparencies and shine, seeking to simulate "the optical qualities of glass," according to Apple. "It may even bring joy to users," the company noted in its presentation. One of the most obvious changes will be in the Camera app, which will feature a simpler interface. "Only the most frequently used modes—camera and video—will be visible, and users can swipe to access additional functions," Apple explained.

During the event, it was also announced that operating system updates will now be year-numbered. The latest version was introduced as iOS 26. "This operating system is coming this fall," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

One of the new system's most notable features is simultaneous translation using artificial intelligence. "Live translation can translate conversations instantly," the company explained.

This feature will be integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and phone calls. Apple demonstrated this tool with a video that showed a conversation translated in French and English in real time using on-screen subtitles. "It will work seamlessly even when calling someone who doesn't have an iPhone," the company added.

Translated music

In the music sector, Apple Music will also incorporate translation features. “Lyric translation and pronunciation will be added so everyone can sing along regardless of language,” it was stated during the conference. There were no concrete updates regarding Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, despite the announcement last year of an improved version with artificial intelligence. “We continue to work to deliver features that make Siri even more personal,” said Craig Federighi, vice president of Software Engineering. The delay in the launch of the new Siri has even led to two class-action lawsuits for alleged deceptive marketing. “The project required additional time to reach Apple's quality standards,” he stated.

Finally, the company announced that Apple Intelligence will also be available to third-party developers. This will allow AI features to be integrated into third-party applications. "Our on-device AI model will be open to everyone," the company concluded.

Announces new “Liquid Glass” design on platforms and lots of AI in its apps

Simultaneous translator

The new feature uses artificial intelligence to caption calls and messages in real time, even with users without iPhones.

Simplified camera

The Camera app now displays only the essentials, such as the most used modes, and is more intuitive to the touch.

Translated lyrics

Apple Music will display lyrics with translations and pronunciation to make singing in other languages easier.

“Liquid Glass”

According to the company, "Liquid Glass" simulates the "optical qualities of glass"—similar to a magnifying glass—and can even bring "joy" to users. Apple's last design update was in 2013.
